Along with all the art Johnson County provides, we also have a collection of writers and published works from local authors. Buffalo is also home to the Johnson County Arts and Humanities Council (JCAHC), who offer a monthly Writers Ink group. Follow our local authors and be in the know when a new release is published!

Gene Gagliano

Eugene M. Gagliano, (pronounced Galiano), is a retired elementary teacher, children’s author, and poet. A native of Niagara Falls, New York, he has been a resident of Buffalo, WY for over 45 years, and taught elementary education for 34 years. Gene, one of over 500 teacher nominations, received one of the ten 2001 Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards. He has been in Who’s Who in America’s Teachers several times during his career. The local Johnson County IRA awarded him their Celebrate Literacy Award in 2004, and he later received the IRA’s 2004 Wyoming State Literacy Award. Gene and his wife of nearly 50 years, Carol, have four children and six grandchildren.

Gene has published books such as “Secret of the Black Widow” and the well-known “C is for Cowboy” and more.

Craig Johnson

Craig Johnson is the New York Times bestselling author of the Longmire mysteries, the basis for the hit Netflix original series Longmire. He is the recipient of the Western Writers of America Spur Award for fiction, and his novella Spirit of Steamboat was the first One Book Wyoming selection. He lives in Ucross, Wyoming, population twenty-five.

Steve Rzasa

Author Steve Rzasa slays word counts and vanquishes writing goals on a daily basis, a storyteller creating fantastical adventures full of action, humor, and suspense.

Steve grew up in Atco, New Jersey, and started writing stories in grade school. He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University, and worked for eight years at newspapers in Maine and Wyoming. He was then a librarian, serving as the Johnson County Library director from 2019 to 2023. He’s currently a ghostwriter and interviewer for Speak It To Book and Renown Publishing.

Steve is a fan of all things science-fiction and superhero. He also is an avid student of history.
